Mr. Zhang is an attorney-at-law in our Beijing office. After graduation from Fudan University with LL.B. in 1986 he worked as in-house counsel of Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company for six years. He was qualified to practice in 1988. During his practice with Beijing Dadi Law Firm as a partner from 1992 to 1997, he gained further legal education and training in the University of London and then worked in the London headquarters and Hong Kong branch of Linklaters and Alliance. Prior to joining Hylands he was one of the founding partners of Beijing Zhongtong Law Firm.

His practice covers intellectual property, finance, real estate, etc. He provided legal service as the outside counsel to the Bank of China, the Construction Bank of China, and China Everbright Bank. Most significantly he provided legal service as outside counsel of Bank of China on the project of The Export-Import Bank of Japan providing government loans to China with an amount of billions US dollars.

He provides legal services in share transfer, corporation finance, corporate governance, contract management, litigation and arbitration to several esteemed local and foreign clients, including ABN, AMRO Bank, AT&T, Intel, Wang Global, Budweiser, Marconi telecommunication (China) Ltd, FG Wilson Engineering Ltd., Olivetti International, Maersk Container Industry Ltd., China Non-ferrous Metal Corporation, China National Machine Tool Corp., China National Arts & crafts (Group) Cooperation.
Mr. Zhang is one of the leading Chinese lawyers in franchising and chain store business. He is the outside counsel of several franchising companies, including Dicos, POSTNET, Xinhua Bookshop, Double Star Café, etc. He is well known in franchising business, and invited by Global Sources to join the Franchise Conference as guest speaker every year. He is a private member of China Chain-store and Franchise Association (CCFA), and one of the members of CCFA’s legal committee.

Mr. Zhang also specializes in Trademark, copyright, know-how and patent with rich experience. He represented eight film producers of Hollywood against the biggest Discs producer in China. This case is very remarkable and considered as the No.1 IP case between USA and China.
